The founder's commemoration

In our village the elders home stood as a testament to the compassion of its founder, Leela Withana. Established two and half decades ago, it provided a sanctuary for the elderly, offering them peace and dignity. Leela Withana who had no children or grandchildren, entrusted the home to the society of Leela Withana Samajasewa Sanwidanaya to ensure her legacy would continue. Every year, on the anniversary of Leela Withana's passing, the village held an alms giving ceremony. This year the members of Samajasewa Sanwidanaya wanted the occasion to be specially meaningful.

The villagers and society members knelt presenting their offerings to the monks. Bowls of rice,fruits, and delicacies were placed reverently in the monk's alms Bowls.

In our village, the tradition of alms giving endured, a testament to the enduring power of compassion and community, Leela Withana's spirit lived on, guiding and inspiring them with the support of the society dedicated to her noble cause.
