Sinhala and Hindu new year festival at Leela Withana Elders home

On the 17th day of April, we celebrated the Sinhala and Hindu new year at Leela Withana Elders home, where tradition meets joy and community spirit. Our vibrant is a cherished event that brings together residents, staff, and special guests of the organisation Next Steps, in a day filled with laughter, music, and cultural richness.

Highlight of the festival - Ceremonial Lighting of the oil lamp, Traditional Games (residents enjoyed a variety of games, including placing the eye on the elephant, bursting balloons, and exciting pot_crushing game, where participants attempted clay pots while blindfolded, filling the day with laughter fun), Music and dance (this year our resident Rathnawathi Menike graced us with a special dance performance, showcasing her talent and adding a personal touch to the festivities.), Festival meal (Traditional milk rice,keum,kokis and sweets), Cultural Performance (local school children performed Traditional dances), Evening musical Programme.

Our President Upali Ranasinha and Treasurer Lionel Weerasooriya, actively participated in the celebrations, ensuring that the event was memorable for everyone. This festival wasn't just a celebration of the new year but a testament to the enduring spirit of our community and the joy of shared traditions. Join us in reflecting on this special time and experience the warmth, joy, and unity that define the Sinhala and Hindu New Year at Leela Withana Elders home. Together, we created beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.
